Finals

2010 marked the debut of the “TRIPLE CROWN CHAMPIONSHIP” paintball event.  Over 40 teams made it the largest paintball event of the outdoor season.  2011 is here, and the Triple Crown is back!

The Canadian Triple Crown Paintball Championship will be held in Salmon Arm, BC on JUNE 11-12, 2011.

For 2011 the TRIPLE CROWN will offer more choice than ever before.  Teams will choose from 5 Divisions, and 3 formats.  5Man, 7Man, and the popular X-Division formats, all offered at the same event.  This has never been done before, by any league, or series.  This is another groundbreaking move by the CPPL and its affiliate leagues, in its attempt to accommodate all paintball players, and all formats.

Space in the event is VERY limited.  Please don’t miss out by waiting till the last minute.  Some divisions will only have 6 spots available.  Don’t wait!!!

Kevin Moore, President of IPL has been a driving force in recent years promoting speedball in the valley. IPL is now part of the CPPL conference series, which combines the Eastern leagues, BCPPL, MR Leagues and IPL into one big happy paintballing family. Each region has three events, with 3 major events throughout the year. And nothing is more fitting than having the season opener at Bushwacker paintball facility.

Arriving at the Bushwacker Paintball in Vernon, you will be greeted with lot of parking on a large gravel pit.  If you cant find a place to park,you shouldn’t be allowed to drive.  The Event field is located in a large grass field, with high dirt bunkers surrounding it. Its old school natural turf, a little rough and uneven, and will make sliding a challenge. The field layout is a variation of the standard Xball layout, and appears to be designed to be pushed down snake side or Dorito side.

This layout  played out very well last week at practice and made for easy and fast bumps up either side, and down the middle plays well too, just to mix it up.  Snake was key, get in, get down the field shoot out opposite side.  The house dorito was designed for midgets, so it was amusing to watch 3 large guys stand in it and shoot lanes.  Someome was going to be walking off.

Due to less than favorable turnout, ie: lack of teams,  the event was compressed into a Sunday event.   The morning was Div 3 and Div 4 combined. The morning play went on with out a hitch.  It was a fast pace with little time between some games. I felt it was a perfect pace really. All these teams played with passion and appeared to really enjoy the venue.

As many of you know, I have come out of retirement to play the league I helped form with my longtime paintball friend and former team mate Kevin” Limey” Moore.   I am playing with Savage Reaction this season, and I must say, it was the most fun I have had in a long time.  Gary of  Hardcore Paintball and I go way back to days when we played on rival teams.   To play with Gary and his group, well to sum it up, they are great group, relaxed yet serious, everyone was in it for the fun but played with heart.  IPL should seriously consider a masters div and perhaps combine it with Div 3.  As long as the rookies don’t mind too much.  They have the advantage of youth and speed, so cant see it as a real issue.  But that’s another discussion for another time.

As the afternoon was warming up, it was starting to feel like the Okanagan valley.  It was time for IPX, the IPL Xball variation was the new format for Divs 2 and Open.  It pretty much like regular Xball with some subtle changes.  End result is a exciting product to watch.    Its fast, its furious, you must play with your head up and push hard.  A few tempers flared resulting in aggressive play and early season rivalries forming .  It was a great show to watch, and from the reaction of the players, a lot of fun to play.  IPX looks to be a huge success with the teams overall.  IPL is open to suggestions how to improve it, so you can chime in on the IPL Facebook forums with your remarks and suggestions.

Rating this event , Overall 4 /5 stars.   IPL put on a great show! Kevin Moore of Bushwacker Paintball,  and his roadies should be very proud of a great production done on a tight budget. Special thanks to all those in the background that make things work,  Gary from Hardcore paintball and his crew for reliable air all day long, and  awesome job by the reffing staff. Thanks!

IPL  E1 Revisions

Due to smaller than usual turnout, we will be holding E1 on Sunday only. Rookie and Newbie games scheduled to start at 0900 HRS. The captains meeting we be at 0845 HRS.

Div 4 and 3 will be combined in prelims. You will play a triple round robin in the prelims. There will be no finals, your prelims score will be your placing for the event.

Open will play two matches against each team. For a total of 6 matches at the event. Open will also have no finals, and placing is determined by prelims score.

As per IPL directives entry is reduced by half for one day events. All teams that paid full entry will have a credit for their initial paint purchase.

Paintballs will be reduced by $10 per case across the board. Starting at $65 per case taxes included.

Top Gun Competition: After Rookie prelims, if there are enough interested parties, we will have a one on one comp for the top gun award.

Prizes: Due to the reduction in entry fees, there will be a small cash prize for first. Medals as always will be awarded.

Schedule of games will be released by Friday.

We hope our one day amendments make the game more cost effective for the players, while still providing a quality product.
